One of the more shocking and heart wrenching stories of the year in both sports and in general. And certainly, in the soccer world: Germany and Hanover 96 goalkeeper Robert Enke has died after being hit by a train and German police have confirmed that first indications point to suicide. This really hit me hard seeing this, and this paragraph just made it more painful to bear
The 32-year-old died close to his home in Neustadt-Eilvese, Hannover, near a railway level crossing. "First indications point to suicide," a media officer for the Niedersachsen police said.
Enke's daughter Lara died in 2006 of a rare heart condition when she was just two. He leaves behind his wife, Teresa, and an eight-month-old daughter the coupled had adopted.Enke was Germany's number one before he had a stomach flu, and was certainly in the running to be the keeper in the nets for them in South Africa next year. And he had become a bedrock for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga for the non-soccer fans.
This one really blows. It really does.
TWD Condolences are certainly with Enke family and the hard times his wife has and is certainly enduring.
